If you're like me, you love this creamy milk jam that melts your heart and enhances any dessert. Whether to top an ice cream, or to make the Banoffee flavor ice cream available in my latest Ebook , dulce de leche is real happiness in a jar! 🥄✨
And the good news is that it's super easy to make at home. Ready to get started? Here is my unfailing dulce de leche recipe!

Dulce de Leche Recipe:
Ingredients :
- 1 liter of whole milk
- 300 g of sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)

Instructions :
- Prepare the ingredients :
- In a large saucepan, combine the milk, sugar and baking soda. The baking soda helps achieve that beautiful caramel color, so don't skip it!
- Cook over low heat :
- Place the pan over low heat. Stir regularly to dissolve the sugar. Once the mixture begins to heat up, you will see a slight foam forming.
- Let it simmer :
- Once the mixture is hot, let it simmer without boiling, stirring often. This can take between 1 hour and 2 hours, so be patient! You will see the color slowly change from a creamy white to a golden caramel.
- Thicken the mixture :
- Continue to cook until the mixture thickens and coats the back of a spoon. You'll know your dulce de leche is ready when you can draw a line with your spoon in the mixture and it stays visible for a few seconds.
- Add the vanilla :
- If desired, stir in vanilla extract for an even richer flavor.
- Leave to cool :
- Remove from the heat and let the dulce de leche cool to room temperature. It will thicken a little more as it cools.
- Keep :
- Pour the dulce de leche into a sterilized jar and store it in the refrigerator. It will keep for around 2-3 weeks (if you don't finish it before!).

Use :
How about a spread on pancakes, an addition to your yogurts or even a topping for moist cupcakes? The possibilities are endless! And don't forget, dulce de leche can also be used in many of my recipes, including the banoffee ice cream recipe available in my latest e-book.
There you go, you are now ready to enjoy this sweet homemade wonder! Tell me how you use it in your recipes! 🍮💛
