If you have followed food trends, you have surely heard of El Mordjene , this famous Algerian spread which has created a buzz on social networks. Its dazzling success even surpassed that of Nutella, but the story took an unexpected turn: El Mordjene was banned in Europe. But good news, you can easily recreate it at home! Here's everything you need to know.

The El Mordjene phenomenon: From TikTok to ban
It all started on TikTok, where El Mordjene captivated foodies. In a few weeks, this Algerian spread invaded the supermarkets, and the jars were snapped up at a crazy pace. Then, a twist: the European Commission banned the product due to health standards, in particular the absence of necessary approvals in Algeria for the export of dairy products. Enough to provoke debates and theories on social networks!
But don't panic, it's very easy to recreate this delicious dough at home with the recipe I'm offering you.

Homemade El Mordjene recipe
Ingredients for one pot:
- 100 g roasted hazelnuts without skin
- 150 g of icing sugar
- 80 g neutral oil (sunflower or rapeseed)
- 50 g of powdered milk
Instructions :
- Prepare the hazelnuts :
- If your hazelnuts are not already roasted, toast them for a few minutes in a pan over medium heat, then let them cool. If they still have skin, rub them in a clean cloth to remove the skin.
- Mix the hazelnuts :
- Put the roasted hazelnuts in a blender and grind them until you obtain a fine, but slightly grainy texture.
- Add the other ingredients :
- Add the icing sugar, milk powder and oil to the blender. Mix again until you obtain a homogeneous and smooth paste. If the texture is too thick, you can add a little oil to soften it.
- Conservation :
- Pour the spread into an airtight jar and store it in the refrigerator. It will keep for around 2 to 3 weeks (if you manage not to eat it before then!).
